Building an independent peer review system means that we are not aligned with any single particular group or stakeholder. Our goal is to provide a solution that has system-wide impact so that each participant in the publishing process can experience the benefits.
The scorecard is comprehensive and gives structure to an otherwise opaque process where guidelines and instructions vary from journal to journal. With our validated and standardized instrument, you can complete a review in a couple of hours and be confident that you’ve done a thorough job. Coupling your comments with a quantitative evaluation keeps your reviews more consistent.
As a reviewer, you will be matched to papers in your field based on keywords and MESH terms using our advanced reviewer matching system, so the papers you are asked to review are more likely to be of interest. As we grow the network, experienced reviewers will have even more choices among available reviews, and will be able to select papers based on their own individual interest.
Your review experience will get the professional recognition it deserves. Our system will provide a centralized way to keep track of your body of review work. Your official review record can go alongside your publication record, teaching experience, and grants awarded to show your additional contributions to the literature in your field. Also, since your reviews can be viewed by multiple journals, your opinions will be read by a wider variety of editors.
As a reviewer, you may be inundated with review requests at all times, and may feel guilty for having to turn them down. We respect that your time is valuable, and allow you to control your own availability. You will only be matched to papers when you indicate that you are available, and you can change your availability at any time.
Using a standardized scorecard helps you focus your feedback, and provide a detailed and comprehensive review. You’ll also receive feedback on your reviews from our managing reviewers, who can give you insight into how your reviews compare to those of your peers. You'll know about key areas for improvement, and will have opportunities to be recognized for outstanding review quality.
At Rubriq, we honor reviewers by rewarding your participation and time.
Rubriq’s one-week review process—and the independent, standardized R-Score that it produces—reduces your time to first decision. Since you can proactively search and get alerts about new papers that meet your requirements, you don’t have to wait for a submission to engage an author. You can reduce your overall time to first decision, making your journal even more attractive to authors. And it's completely free.
With so many submissions, many journals have to make quick decisions, which means they may have to screen papers based only on the abstract and title. The Rubriq system can give you more confidence in your rejection process, since you know the papers have already been examined carefully by three experts. This means that a lot fewer “hidden gems” will slip through the cracks.
If you publish a large volume of articles, your readers may have a hard time seaching and sorting the content, and prioritizing what to read. Even if you offer post-publication metrics, people still want to read the latest papers now rather than wait weeks for the community to pass judgment. By listing the R-Score as an initial reception metric, you can provide an additional way for your readers to find the best content.
By using the Rubriq network, you will have a preview of papers that have not yet been submitted, and can invite authors to submit to your journal before they go to the competition. You will have the ability to search for papers by keywords and terms of interest to you, in addition to filtering by R-Score. The Rubriq system makes it possible to quickly and consistently attract research that matches best to your journal, which in turn supports your journal development strategy.
With an R-Score and Rubriq scorecard from reviewers you can trust, you can effectively pre-screen papers prior to your own review process, reducing the number of papers you send to your reviewers that are later rejected. This way, you reduce reviewer fatigue, and send only higher-quality articles to your own reviewer pool. As part of the complete Rubriq Report, we will also perform the fundamental screening tasks of checking for plagiarism, conflict of interest and ethical breaches so you can focus on your main priority—strengthening your journal with a competitive advantage by focusing on the papers that will bring in readers.
Some journals (especially new open-access journals) may choose to use the Rubriq to replace their review process entirely, but this is by no means required to be a part of the network. Journals that are struggling to recruit reviewers and manage their review process may choose to use the Rubriq system as their primary review platform, prior to their own editorial decisions.
